A LITTLE KNOW-HOW

Chess clock

Make your move. Tap your clock.

Set the phone between two players, choose a time control and tap Start. White starts by default; Custom lets Black start instead. After making a move, tap your own large clock. Your opponent's clock starts immediately. The top clock faces the player across the board.

Increment or delay?

3 + 2 gives each player three minutes, then adds two seconds after each completed move. This is Fischer increment. Unused added time stays on the clock. No increment is added when starting, pausing or resuming.

Simple delay (US) waits the chosen number of seconds at the start of each turn before deducting the player's main time. Unused delay is not added to the clock. Pausing preserves the unused portion of that turn's delay.

Pause and interruptions

Use Pause to stop both clocks. Switching tabs or apps, locking the phone, opening help or starting a reset confirmation pauses the game. It will not resume automatically. Keep this page visible; where supported, we request that the screen stays awake. Browser or phone settings can still interrupt it.

When a clock reaches zero, play stops and that side is marked Time up. This tool does not judge the chess position or declare the result of the game. Use it for casual over-the-board play; it is not a certified tournament clock.

Settings and privacy

Your chosen time control can be saved in this browser. The live game stays in page memory, so reloading starts a fresh game. No player names, clock values or moves are sent with tool-use analytics. New game asks before clearing the clocks.
