A “mosquito tone” is a very high-pitched sound. This generator starts at 17,400 Hz, with presets from 12,000 to 20,000 Hz. Tap Play 5-second tone for a short sine-wave sample, or stop it sooner with the same large button.
Is it a sound only kids can hear?
No frequency reliably separates children from adults. High-frequency hearing often changes with age, but people of the same age can hear different ranges. Younger people may not hear a particular tone, while some older people can. The speaker and audio system also affect what reaches you. This page does not estimate your age or give a hearing score.

Try it briefly, at a low level
Start with your device volume low. Don’t turn it up to chase a tone you cannot hear, and stop if it feels uncomfortable. Only play it when people nearby want to listen. Tone level controls the generated signal, not a measured sound level at your ear; even a short sample is not a guarantee of a safe exposure at every device-volume setting.
Why can someone else hear it when I can’t?
Individual hearing varies. Different speakers, output settings and background noise can also change the result. This informal demonstration cannot distinguish a hearing difference from an equipment limitation.
Is the buzzing or clicking I hear the selected tone?
Not necessarily. Some devices distort high-frequency signals or produce other sounds. Hearing an artifact does not establish that you can hear the displayed frequency. This is not a calibrated hearing test.
Does it repel mosquitoes?
This page is named after the high-pitched tone. It does not claim to repel insects or replace mosquito protection.
What happens if I leave the page?
Sound stops on page hide, when you open help, or when audio is interrupted. Each sample also has a five-second audio-clock limit. It never restarts on its own.
Does it use my microphone?
No. Sound is generated on your device. The page cannot tell whether you heard it; no listening responses, selected frequencies or audio are sent to analytics.
For lower frequencies and waveform options, use the tone generator. For left/right routing, use the speaker test.
